It is all in the motive

Updated: Apr 15, 2022

What are your motives? Motive is why we do certain things or react certain ways. In other words, it is what drives us. Therefore, we must ask ourselves, what is my motive here? See, we can judge right or wrong but never someone’s motive, for only God knows the heart. We must realize that we cannot earn favor with the Lord, for He knows our hearts( our motives). There is no deceiving Him. Our motive should be to love God and love others, this is what should drive us. Christ was driven to Calvary by His love for the Father, and then, His love for you and me. The same should be true of us, we must desire pure motives, and that, my friend takes an examination of the heart. ❤️

“6 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” Matt6:1

“2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them,

but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do,

and he will establish your plans.”

Prov 16.2-3.

“9 The heart is deceitful above all things,

and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Jer. 17.9

“7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Cor. 9.7.

Questions to ponder:

1. Do I volunteer in order to be noticed by others or am I doing it out of love?

2. If I never hear thank you or get noticed, will I continue helping?

3. Do I see this as a duty or am I helping because I love God?

4. Am I trying to earn favor with God?

Lord, if you find the wrong motives in my heart, please change my heart.
